The Artist On Silent Films

I believe that this film was so successful because it was silent. It was a movie that strived to be different and maybe even teach people about the evolution of movies as a whole. Many people probably saw this movie and praised it for its different ideas and how it presented its characters. Another reason why this film was successful is how the audience could use the silent part of the film to form their own story in their heads. At certain parts, people speak without showing a title card for their dialog. This makes the viewer unconsciously piece the conversation together with the rest of the story. I believe the film won best picture because of its main focus, the silence. Many people say that some of the best films ever were silent ones, and making a modern silent film could be one of the greatest in history. The Artist was so successful because of its fresh ideas and new meanings to film as a whole.
